Science that is out of this world
I search for the universe’s most spectacular events - stars that explode, galaxies that collide, and cosmic flashes that appear for only seconds but reveal clues to the origins of the universe itself. My work unlocks these fleeting astronomical mysteries, blending cutting-edge observations with artificial intelligence to sift through the unimaginable scale of modern sky surveys, finding the rare, the unexpected, and the things we never predicted.
But my research doesn’t stop at the edge of space. I lead Swinburne’s microgravity research program, delivering experiments to the International Space Station to study how biology, materials, and technology behave in space — helping to lay the groundwork for future industries in low Earth orbit and deep space exploration.
As a scientist, author, and global science communicator, I’ve published over 23 research papers, delivered invited talks on four continents, and regularly appear across international television, radio and print to share the wonder of the universe with millions. At the heart of my work is one mission: making space science accessible, inspiring, and ready to fuel the next generation of discovery.
